Common job titles: Payroll Administrator, Payroll Clerk, Payroller, Payroll Officer, Payroll Specialist

We've been helping New Zealand's Payrollers find jobs throughout Auckland and Wellington's Accounting & Finance industry for more than 20 years. If you're a Payroll superstar or a manager looking for one, we'd love to hear from you.

Entry requirements

A Payroll Officer will need to have current knowledge of New Zealand’s employment law, such as the Holidays Act, and tax legislation. Previous experience in accounting software is often a requirement and some clients will seek candidates with specific knowledge in particular software. An excellent Payroll Clerk/Officer will also need attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.

Sought after candidates will have advanced experience in Microsoft Excel and the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and process payroll timely.

Salary range

  • Junior - experienced: $50,000 - $70,000
  • Senior: $65,000 - $85,000

What could you be doing?

A Payroll Officer may work closely with the Human Resources department or, depending on the size of the business, might be sole-charge. As a Payroll Officer you may do any of the following:

  • Process pay runs
  • Calculate staff deductions
  • Enter and check staff timesheets
  • Assist with audits
  • Forward information to government departments, ensuring the organisation complies with the law

Progression

After several years working as a Payroll Clerk, you may expect to move into a senior Payroll role or a management position.

  • Payroll Manager

Who makes a great Payroller?

People with one or more years’ experience in Payroll but more importantly, enthusiastic professionals who are excellent communicators, have a keen eye for detail, and the ability to juggle workloads and deadlines without breaking a sweat. If that sounds familiar, we’d love to hear from you!
