Entry requirements

Our clients often prefer candidates with a high level of accounting experience and exposure to some of the most common accounting systems and software for Project Accountant positions.

Holding a relevant accounting, commerce, or business degree, and being a CA qualified Accountant or actively studying towards it can be advantageous.

Our clients also prefer candidates with strong written and verbal communication skills as these professionals regularly need to explain accounting and finance concepts to others.

What could you be doing?

A Project Accountant’s role can vary and typically related to a specific project or portfolio of projects. Usually reporting to the Financial Controller or Accounting/Finance Manager, these professionals are responsible for managing and reporting a project’s financial performance.

Typical day-to-day duties can include:

• Preparation of monthly financial reports for projects
• Review and approve project-related costs
• Managing the general ledger including reconciliations for projects
• Providing specialist financial advice on projects
• Assisting with budgeting & forecasting for projects

Progression

After several years’ working as a Project Accountant, you may expect to move into a more senior accounting position.

• Accounting/Finance Manager
• Commercial Manager
• Financial Controller
• Chief Financial Officer

Who makes a great Project Accountant?

A CA or CPA qualified Accountant or an Accountant who has nearly finished their chartered qualification, and has a solid understanding of modern financial systems, budgeting, and forecasting. You will also need to be enthusiastic and an excellent communicator, have a keen eye for detail, and the ability to juggle workloads and deadlines without breaking a sweat.
