Entry requirements

Our clients often prefer Business Advisory Services (BAS) Accountants to possess significant experience in accounting (usually in a Chartered Accountancy environment) and a sound grasp of New Zealand (NZ GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Obtaining a full membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) is usually required, however, some employers may consider candidates currently studying towards membership.

What could you be doing?

The role of a BAS Accountant can be incredibly varied and depend on the size of the firm the Accountant works for. A BAS Accountant usually reports to a BAS Manager or Partner.

• Typical day-to-day duties can include:
• Preparing annual financial statements & compliance
• Producing GST, FBT and other tax returns
• Preparing client advisory documents
• Producing business valuations

Progression

After several years’ working as a BAS Accountant, you may expect to move into more senior roles within a Chartered Accountancy firm. You may also move into a Commercial Accounting role.

Chartered Accountancy

• Senior BAS Accountant
• BAS Manager

Commercial Accounting

• Financial Accountant
• Management Accountant (with sufficient advisory/consulting experience)
